Root 64 got their name from the road that leads up and down North Yorkshire.

Nick Thompson, (fiddle), currently on tour with the Whisky Priests, resides in Malton. Oz Hardwick (poet, vocalist, bass player) and Miles Salter (poet, vocals, guitar) live in York so the A64 is their local link road.

The band play folk, blues and Americana music – including songs by Johnny Cash, Joni Mitchell, Elvis Presley, and many more. They have adapted their work for a music and poetry show, Americana-rama.

The band have appeared at various festivals and venues in the Yorkshire region. They don’t take themselves or the music too seriously, but enjoy playing together.

‘It’s good fun,’ says Miles. ‘The music takes in rock ‘n’ roll, blues, folk and country. We enjoy tit all. There’s life in a handful of chords.’
